Here’s pretty much what I had in my mind when I headed back to Virginia after two years in Europe. A little bungalow (c 1920) just blocks from a Metro stop and only a few minutes drive to my job. This is where my Sweetie and I could grow old together, our last house, walking distance to a good grocery store, great restaurants and easy public transportation into Washington D.C. A nice little back yard where I can have my garden. Double paned windows mean it will be heated and cooled efficiently. It has a fireplace in the living room, three bedrooms, and a deck off the kitchen and a claw footed tub in one of the 2 full bathrooms. The fact that it’s located across the street from Washington and Lee's stadium means we would really appreciate those double paned windows come football season. It has a remodeled kitchen too with granite counters and the parking is off the street for my Mini. And, yes, that is a lilac bush by the front porch. Why is my heart breaking?
Asking price for this little gem is $679,900 - even in this market. Ye gods! I may HAVE to move back to Texas. Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
K Q:-0
Waaahhhh indeed!
Here's my experiment/challenge for you though: Everytime you walk by that house, say "that's going to be my house!" and "I'm buying that house, I can afford it."
In spare moments picture yourself living in that house. Write your name and the house's address together. Say that you expect to be living in that house by (autumn? Christmas?)
Stranger things have happened than you getting that house. Example: Living in Switzerland for two years! Life conspires to fulfill our deepest desires!
For my part, I plan to visit you in that house next spring. I love lilacs and big bathtubs, and I can see us together sharing a cup of tea before we headed out for some shopping!

And, of course, everything Jill says. You and Sherman can do this, if that is really what you both want!

Well, of course, you are both right. I have had creative visualization work in my favor before. If not this one, perhaps one even better. Will keep thinking positive. Thanks! K Q:-)

It is a lovely house, but the really important things in life you already have... someone who loves you and good taste in hats!

GIRL, What are you thinking?!?! Perhaps I should you let you dream but instead will throw a bit of reality onto the dream. Think maintenance free condo if you enjoy Saturday afternoon walks looking at cherry blossoms and Sunday's at the Smithsonian Craft Show. Take it from one who knows, a house is the equivalent of two husbands and three kids in terms of work and time. You can always go to the farmer's maket for veggies and surely there is a spa with a big tub somewhere close. Do you really want to spend your time trimming that lilac bush, repairing leaky faucets and painting?

Yes, on visiting time!
And, yes, I do want to spend time with that lilac bush. Being an old country gal I love digging in my garden tho' there are "Pool Boys" for plumbing issues.
I can dream and who knows what may happen.
