Oh La La Flat Lily

Flat Lily went with me last week on a Paris Couture Tour and she enjoyed it very much. Our first afternoon in Paris we walked to the Cathedral of Notre Dame where I took a picture of Flat Lily in the new beret I made for her. After all, a beret is soooooo French. The windows of Notre Dame are famously beautiful.

Then we strolled along the Seine River, to take a boat ride and see the sights of Paris in the evening. It was very chilly on the boat so Flat Lily was glad to be wearing her beret. That tall iron structure is the Eiffel Tower completed in 1889. It has become the symbol of Paris. Soon we got closer for a better picture. Later in the week we were able to go up in the tower.

After the boat tour we went to a Crêperie for dinner and ate two each of these delicous French pancakes. My dessert crepe was made with apples and ice cream and Calvados. The waiter set it on fire!

The next day Flat Lily and I took the Eurostar train to London for a day at the Victoria and Albert Museum to see The Golden Age of Couture exhibit. The Eurostar is a very fast train that goes through a tunnel under the English Channel. We took a London taxi from the station and got caught in a traffic jam. At least I got a picture of Flat Lily in front of Buckingham Palace, home of Queen Elizabeth. We weren’t allowed to take pictures in the exhibit but here we are eating lunch in one of the William Morris rooms.

Back in Paris the next day, we rode the Metro (that’s the French subway) to see the Palais Royal and the shops surrounding the garden. Did you know that the Metro in Washington, D.C. was modeled after the Paris Metro? My favorite shop was The Little Black Dress Shop. The rest of the week was filled with visits to ateliers where people make tassels, flowers and embroidery for the Haute Couture and tapestries for the palaces in France. Of course, we did some shopping for ourselves too. I’ve never seen so many shoe stores! We ended our week with another museum visit, this time for the Christian Lacroix exhibit at the Louvre (Lily will be getting a postcard from here).

Next Flat Lily will travel to visit Ms. Vida whom she met on our Paris tour. Ms. Vida lives in California and will be going to Hong Kong so Flat Lily will get to go all the way to China. As the French would say, Bon Voyage, Flat Lily!

Thanks so much for doing this for Lily (Flat Lily's partner). I didn't expect you to take so much of your time to do this for us. Please know I sincerely appreciate it!!!

I went to grandparents day last week at her school and all her classmates are so excited with the post cards and this website. The day I was there the teacher read the post card from London.

I print the pictures out and send them to school. They are posted on a bulletin board in the hallway of the school. When Lily first saw the web-site she was so pleased she called told everyone she could think of to tell them to check their computers.
