Friday our weather was still nice so we met Starr, Holger and Melony in the evening at Starr & Holger’s house in Guggein (St. Gallen). After cocktails we took an easy walk up the road to Guggein Hoechst for dinner. On the way we spotted a fruit stand by a house and garden. They were selling baskets of fresh picked plums for just 2 CHF. Of course, we bought some (see bag in Holger’s hand). At the restaurant we dined outside under the trees with a view over the Bodensee. It was a lovely dinner with a Swiss Heida wine. Claremarie and I both had fresh fish again which was delicious. The breeze and the sunset were delightful. I'm only sorry I got that awning pole in the middle of the picture! Afterward, we took another path through the woods back to the house and then a bus home.
Saturday it was our turn to host the SAGA dinner group and for the first time it was nice enough to eat out on our terrace. Sherman is still in the US so Claremarie agreed to sit in his place. She also slaved all day as my Souschef, cutting and chopping for a Chinese feast. On the menu this time were Pork & Mango Skewers then homemade Jie’s Spring Rolls (Thanks to Starr and Holger for arriving early to wrap spring rolls!), Egg Drop Soup made with homemade stock then a spicy Szechuan Orange Chicken with rice, cold Cucumber and Mushroom Salad and Snow Peas. I’m afraid I was too busy cooking to take many pictures.
For dessert I deserted the Chinese theme and made Beryl’s Original Plum Tart with those freshly picked plums we’d bought on Friday night. It did not disappoint especially since we also passed Swiss Vanilla Ice Cream. Mmmmmmm! Sorry you missed this, Sweetie, but we do have leftovers.
